Greetings from the land of the Green Bay Packers! I have been married to Sandy (a nice Wisconsin girl) for 24 years. I earned a BA in Biology from CSUN, and an MBA from Keller Graduate School (local midwest outfit - way too rigorous). For the past ten years I've been working as a Medical Technologist in a hospital just north of Milwaukee. Quick geography lesson: no offense, but over the years I've discovered most folks don't know where Wisconsin is.....Wisconsin is the state that makes up the western shore of Lake Michigan. Near the bottom edge of the lake is Chicago, as you know. Milwaukee (we live in a suburb called Wauwatosa) is 90 miles due north, along the lake. pop of the Milwaukee county area is about 1,000,000. Home of Miller Brewing, and the Milwaukee Brewers. Green Bay, where the Packers make their home is about 135 miles north. end of lesson. Sandy is a computer programmer for Metavante. She's a grad of Marquette University, which is right here in town, and a native of Wauwatosa. We met at the Sepulveda VA where I was doing my Med Tech internship in 1979-80, and where she happened to be working at the time. Now I live in WI - end of that story. We have three kids: Chris (21), just graduated from college with a BFa w/Honors (College for Creative Studies - Detroit, MI). He intends to move to soCal this summer and look for work as a computer animator in Hollywood. He actually had a short computer-animated film in an international film festival in Chicago last fall. Leann (18), is about to graduate from Wauwatosa East HS, as Salutatorian. She will start at University of Wisconsin this fall. She wants to be an epidemiologist and work for the CDC - takes after her dad!!! Megan (16)is just finishing her sophomore year at 'Tosa East. She made Honor Roll last semester! She is currently thinking about being a psychotherapist, but as she says, that could change next month. 'Tosa East is an average size high school for the area, but dinky compared to Samohi. There are only 300 kids in each class, and it all fits into one big building that takes up only one square block. The academic quality, however, is great, like we had at Samohi. We have four seasons here: spring, highway construction, fall, and winter. We have construction season because each winter lasts about 7 months, and tends to resemble the ice planet Hoth (from "The Empire Strikes Back") - grey, COLD, and snowy, and the roads get all torn up from freezing & thawing, (and all the cars rust from the salt.) Since my wife will probably never read this, I will tell you truthfully that I now HATE living here because I HATE being cold for seven months out of the year, and can't wait to leave this Godforsaken land of slow farmers and bad drivers! Love may have brought me here, but common sense is taking me home after Meg finishes school! My dad still lives on the hill in Malibu, and I'll rent a room from him if I have to... Peace, |

After practicing law in Orange County for about 14 years, I spent 11 years in Dallas as general counsel for a high tech company. In August 2005 we moved to Alpine, UT, nestled amidst 11,000+ ft. mountains, about half way between SLC and Provo. And I have returned to private practice. Have been married for 25 years. We have a married daughter at BYU and a 17 yr. old son who's a senior in high school. I still keep in touch with Tony Palmieri, Jay MacLeod, Jim Lackey, Andy Guilford, Norm Davis ('66) and Steve Maloney ('67). I should add that Cathy COOK ('67) lives about 10 minutes from me. I still have the fondest of memories of growing up in 1960's Santa Monica and our time together at Samohi! October 5, 2006. |

Husband, Leo Germain (Northview High/UCLA) and I (SAMOHI/UCLA) have been married for 27 years. (I was one of those righteous fems who kept my maiden name). We have a 15 year old son, Ryan Edgerton Germain, who is a freshman at Lakewood High School. My husband, Leo, works for IBM. My career's been a fun hodgepodge - from a five year stint in the 70's as Associate producer of a CBS game show (Joker's Wild) to IBM and finally, for the last 10 years, working for the City of Carson. I work in Public Safety, managing the Safety and Emergency Services Division. As you can imagine, we were all pretty busy last year gearing up for Y2K. I hope all of you had a great and festive New Year's Eve... I spent mine in our City's EOC, keeping my fingers crossed! Mercifully, we turned over the clocks with no major events. Anyway, to all my former classmates, a big hello and keep in touch. For those of you passing through Carson, stop in and say hello ... I can't fix parking tickets, but I can give you a tour of City Hall! |

After getting my BA in art history, I naturally went into television...spent 9 years working with contestants for various game shows, including The Hollywood Squares (the old version with Peter Marshall), Gambit, and High Rollers. I quit the biz to raise a family in Moorpark while my husband ran the family antique store in Santa Monica. Divorced and moved to the bay area, where I have been teaching 2nd grade for the last ten years. I have two beautiful daughters--Katie (24) got her BA from USC, works for an architectural firm in Costa Mesa, and is engaged. Lauren (20) is a junior at USC, studying math, fine arts, and animation. I get back to LA several times a year to see my daughters and attend a USC football game. (Fight on!) Would love to hear from one and all! |

Let's see, where to start? Well, since graduating from Samohi, I've maintained by paper route delivering the Evening Outlook...not a bad living! Actually, that's not true. For most of my adult working life, I've sold software to Fortune 1000 companies. Just last year, I left the high tech field and started my own company doing "private lending", where I lend my own money, and that of family and friends, on short term, high interest loans secured by real estate. In fact, if you're tired of the ups and downs of the stock market and would like to earn 12% - 15% on your money, give me a call. Just over a year ago, I got married (again! but...for the LAST TIME) to a wonderful woman. Gina is a clinical psychologist in private practice in La Jolla, with more college degrees that my 3 closest friends from high school combined! My 4 year degree from UCLA in Turkish rugmaking is no match for her intellect. That's about it from me. I hope everyone is doing well...happy, healthy, and wise. |

I have been calling square dances for close to 30 years now. In today's world, unfortunately, we encounter terrorism and war, shootings and drug abuse, gang bangers and taggers and rampant lawlessness on a daily basis. My job is to provide entertainment and laughter to people through music and dance. I give people an outlet to escape from the rigors of their every day lives. Through square dancing, I help people to "get away" for a short while and to laugh and relax and feel good about themselves while not having to travel far from home. And at a cost that is often much less than a theater ticket or a few gallons of gas, for that matter. Square dancing is not hard to learn. It is great exercise. If you know your right hand from your left hand and if you can listen and walk without difficulty, you can learn to square dance. It doesn't matter if you're old or young, handsome or fat, gorgeous or skinny, democrat or republican, drive a stick shift or not. You can bring a partner with you or leave him at home. You can come by yourself, or bring the whole family. Hire a baby sitter or bring the baby sitter to the dance with you, we don't care. It helps if you love music (what's not to like about music?). You can be shy or extroverted; friendly or rude; love the Dodgers, hate the Lakers, love Elvis, hate Elvis, revere the Beatles, despise the Stones, hate S.C. love UCLA, hate Notre Dame, love the Yankees, hate the Red Sox, love Barry Bonds, hate Barry Bonds or supply Barry Bonds' dog with stale cat food. We don't care. That's not true. We all really care that Barry Bond's dog gets fresh food, fresh water, and three walks every day, except Sunday of course. Unless he is a Jewish dog of course....and then he could be trans-dog (a cat stuck in a dog's body).....What kind of a car does a trans-dog chase? A Trans AM? Probably not. Join us at the square dance but leave Barry's dog at home, okay? The only pressure related to my business is to get to the dance on time. Once I am there, it is time to let the hair down, relax, and let the fun begin. And with the sparseness of traffic in the greater LA area, I am usually hours early to most of my dances. Speaking of cars and horseless carriages and such, did you know that Henry Ford was a big time square dance devotee? Yep. Seems his favorite caller was Lloyd "Pappy" Shaw. He liked old Lloyd "Pappy" so much he let him drive a brand spankin' new Model T Ford every year. He could have any Ford on the lot, any color he wanted as long as it was black. Old Lloyd did pretty well for himself calling lots and lots of square dances. And then one night he not only showed up at the dance with Peggy Sue, but they was drivin' her daddy's Chevrolet Corvette! Last dance old Pappy ever called, too. Support our armed forces. Buy American made cars. Eat lots of hot dogs and apple pie. Remember Mom. Salute the flag. Take Dad out to the old ball game. And learn to square dance. It's good for what ails ya. |

Moved to Connecticut about 20 years ago. Live in a semi rural bedroom community on the shore just north of New Haven. Daughter Merrielle graduated Dartmouth College in '02 and traveled extensively throughout the world until recently yearning to go to grad school. Will attend Brown Univ. this fall studying environmental coastline management. Daughter Kelly also a serious traveler after graduating Kenyon College in 2004. Now interning with Golden Gate Nat'l Parks in Sausalito researching invasive non native plants. Son Max scheduled to graduate H.S. in June (could be wet ink diploma!)at a lovely Aquaculture School in New Haven, CT. Wife Susan runs a very successful Estate sale business specializing in Antique furniture and Arts, which is my passion as well. I have spent the past 15 years as an Independent Marketing consultant with three partners specializing in the automotive aftermarket. Every single day is a huge learning experience and uniquely different. I love it! Have recently volunteered with Anthony "Little Guido" Palmieri (68) to get our class networking up to speed in the Viking News. If you are in this class or surrounding ('67,'69 etc) ones we want to hear from you for sure! |

Retired now for 12 years! Can't believe I ever had time to hold down a teaching job. I'm living in Cedar Creek, TX (30 minutes outside Austin). I'm a zookeeper, a photographer, and a caretaker. Three dogs, two birds, and soon to add a pygmy goat to the menagerie. No kids. (That's why I've been retired for 12 years!) Enjoying our seven acres kept up like a park due to the efforts of my husband, Roy. I'm afraid I'll never be inclined to go back to suburban living again, but we do enjoy the benefits of living just outside a major city. How did a Santa Monica gal end up here?!

Moved on to the Dept. of Justice and then the Court of Appeal, where I've worked since 1975. Transferred to San Jose in 1984, but still have many ties to Southern Cal. I had a swell time at the 2008/40th reunion in July. One suggestion for everyone: attend these more frequently than once every 40 years. Thank you to Janice and the other '68 movers/shakers for pulling it together. Believe me when I say that the event and those reconnections will be remembered for a loooong time. It had a mysterious and pleasant effect on me - I'm ready for my 2nd dose right now. At last report a few years ago, I was seeking a green acres life in the central coast of California. Arroyo Grande area. That's still the case but there is a divergence between Susan and I in that she is very ready to retire, NOW, whereas I am having fun in my day job. For the moment at least. Thus, Susan is spending more time up at our ranch in Arroyo Grande, while I fight the alligators in Los Angeles and other parts of the country. I got my bachelor's degree at Cal State Fullerton. That's a commuter school. I was supporting a family during my school years, throwing LA times at 2am in the morning 7 days a week. College was a big haze as a result (and not for medicinal reasons). But there is a piece of paper that has my name on it and the words 'Bachelor of Arts' on that same page. So I'll take it at face value and it has fit nicely on several resume's over the years. Our Los Angeles house is in San Pedro. We have had that house for 17 years. Pedro is a nice area too. Blue collar and tight. I'm told that if you were not born in Pedro, go to Pedro high, and have children raised in Pedro, you are 2nd class citizens. I haven't experienced that myself and I thoroughly enjoy the cultural diversity of all the fishing/dock families. My day job is with technology. I am a manager over a group of about 120 software engineers who focus on tools that Design Engineers use for their work. I've worked in the technology field about 23 years or so. This job is the most interesting one I have had. My two children are living in the greater Los Angeles area out towards Anaheim Hills and Corona. One of them is doing fabulous, has a significant partner, and uses the 'M' word from time to time. The other has big-time conflict with the partner and uses the 'D' word all the time. I view this as a 'balanced' life then, with plenty of drama in both of the households. Of course I love them both dearly and want them to follow their dreams. My father is alive, age 94, and living in my childhood home on Franklin Hill. My mom passed from Alzheimer's disease a few years back. My brother passed last year too young to die. And my 2 sisters are living, one here and one in Oregon. It's mid-October '08 and the air is charged with potential and real threats. Everything is ripe for change and I'm looking forward to those opportunities. Please write, call, or send smoke signals. Attend the next reunion and experience the mystery. Best to all. |

Hi, Vikings. I'm still in Santa Barbara (19 years), still married to Karyn, still have two wonderful daughters, one is now married, so I finally have a son (in-law). I practice real estate, buying, selling, lending, and borrowing, and love my life. I have survived near death and found it to be quite the tonic. I am always available to my friends and classmates. Time to go back! |

After staying home for 15 years to raise my 3 children, I have gone back to teaching. I haven't traveled far from home as I teach Kindergarten at Grant School in Santa Monica. My son Travis, SAMO '00, attends The University of Puget Sound, and son Austin is in the 10th grade at SAMO. Daughter Kelsey, is a 7th grader at John Adams. My husband and I spend our weekends on the football or soccer fields or softball diamond coaching/watching our kids play. Would love to hear from old friends.
I have finally made it to my last 3 years (out of 10 total!) as a Samohi parent. My oldest son, Travis '00, is a Sr.at The University of Puget Sound, my other son, Austin '03is a Freshman at The University of Washington. My daughter, Kelsey '06, is a Soph. and playing soccer and softball for Samo. I'm still teaching kindergarten at Grant School and living in the same house in SM with my husband, Doug. |

Greetings to all of class '68. I hope that many of you will make it to the 40th year reunion. It's been a long time since grad nite and I surely would like to connect with as many of you as possible, if only one more time in this lifetime. I still make my home in Oklahoma with my wife of 30 years. I have still one child living at home (16 yrs old), two are on their own, but no in-laws yet, nor any grandchildren. Life has been good to me and my family. Have had some thoughts of retiring overseas (the Philippines) where our family roots are from. Lloyd Lewis, thanks for keeping in touch all these years, thanks to Steve Wise who recently wrote back to me. I surely would like to hear from anyone else of our class who would care to write or call, especially those of you who live in this region of the country. Cheers. |

My brother Bob attended SAMOHI in1966-68.After graduation Bob attended West LA Community College, and U.C.L.A. (PRE-LAW), Columbus State University (GA), and Auburn University (business). Bob was married twice and lived in Columbus, GA until his untimely death of a heart attack at the age of 47, in 1997. Bob has one daughter, Erin. Bob was a successful entrepenuer in the grocery, food, and furniture business for many years. Bob loved his 71 Corvette, football, U-C-L-A!!, family, the Rolling Stones, and politics. Bob was a faithful church goer at the time of his death. Bob was the best brother/friend any one could have had. We miss him dearly and remember his quick wit, awesome sense of humor, and many fine qualities daily. Bob is buried at Parkhill Cemetery in Columbus, Georgia. I would love to hear from any of his old friends. John Williams, loving brother. |

After high school graduation, I went to University of Miami Florida taking engineering classes. 3000 miles from California wasn't my cup of tea. Came back to SMC for a couple of years, then transferred to Cal Poly San Luis Obispo in their architecture department. Graduated with a 5 year B. of Architecture and worked there until 1995 when my family (wife Joleen and 3 sons)and I moved to Las Vegas. Worked as a project manager and studio leader for 10 years with a large architectural firm until April 2005 at which time we moved to charming Cedar City, Utah. Now I am semi retired, renovating old houses, fishing, and exploring rural Utah. Love it here. Would really like to attend a 40 year class reunion in 2008 and encourage contact from old friends. |

I attended Caltech after graduation, receiving a BS in Engineering and Applied Science, Jet Propulsion Specialty, in 1972, followed by a MS in Mechanical Engineering in 1973. In 1972 I married Michelle Margolese, whom I had met when she was a nursing student at LA County-USC Medical Center. (Michelle's dad, Arthur Margolese, was in Samohi's class of 1947.) We have had three children, Sam, Beth and Josh, who are all grown now and off on their own. Michelle pursued her nursing career in neonatal intensive care for 35 years. I began my career as a research and design engineer in the aerospace industry for some years, and then became a research project manager with the Electric Power Research Institute in Palo Alto, CA. I ran many research projects through various contractors, advised government officials, and organized numerous national and international technical conferences on advanced energy technologies. I even spent a couple of years as a consulting engineer to Portl! and General Electric in Oregon, working on the startup of two powerplants. In 1981 I decided to change careers, joining Hewlett Packard's microwave communications test equipment operation in Santa Rosa, CA, as an engineer. I rose to production management before moving into a special role, consulting to the executives of HP's customers on how to improve their product development and manufacturing operations. I specialized in aerospace companies and eventually consulted to most of the world's commercial and some military communications satellite manufacturers. I earned a MBA degree from Golden Gate University in 1987. Santa Rosa's been a great place to live and raise our family, and Michelle and I have served in many volunteer capacities in the community. When HP split off their instrument business as Agilent Technologies in 2000, I went with the new company. Michelle and I moved to Amsterdam, the Netherlands, so that I could start up a new consulting group for Europe!
We returned home in 2002. I left Agilent in 2003 to become an independent consultant, which was a successful endeavor. In 2004, a couple of Caltech classmates asked me to join their medical device startup, and I am now serving as VP for business development. We are developing a noninvasive glucose monitor for diabetics and other applications. Also since 2004, I've been battling peritoneal mesothelioma, an asbestos-related disease. Michelle and I have become activists and philanthropists in the cause of banning asbestos in the US and of increasing medical research and financial support for victims of asbestos-related diseases. In our spare time, we do a lot of travelling in the US and internationally. We still keep in contact with a few of my Samohi classmates.
