I live just outside of Boston with my wife, Evanthia Malliris. We are empty nesters now with twins, Basile and Thalia, juniors in College. Evie and I work in Boston, she at an add agency and I at one of the Universities. I am still playing with wood, leather, fiber, making a repairing things. Brewing is my new avocation: Pilsner lager, red ale, and black ale. In the summer I still do water sports (sailing), just not in the water. The water is dam cold here. |

Monda '64 and I just celebrated our 43rd wedding anniversary this year and going for 50. I said that I would never build another new home, but in 2005 we moved to Cedar City, UT to be closer to family and of course built another home. We are still within 35 minutes of a ski resort and enough lakes to keep us from getting homesick for our last home in Bend, OR and we have miles of ATV trails in all directions. Love to hear from anybody. |

Aloha to all, I retired from United Airlines as a Flight Attendant in May 2003 after moving back to Kauai from Hong Kong. I had a fantastic 32 years with United and it seemed like a great time to depart! I am now living on Kauai with my husband Ed Sindt, managing my own vacation rental property on Kauai and that has been keeping me busier than when I flew! Who knew! Love living here in paradise, no better place than Santa Monica but this is a good alternative. I am a grandmother to 4 beautiful children, 2 from Perry's daughter Kelly Bates Siegel, Class of 1985 and 2 from Ed's son Kevin Sindt who currently lives in Brunswick, GA, despite they are far away from us, we do our best to get to see them often. Life is grand, hope it is likewise for my alumni friends. Good Health and loving family is all there is! I am grateful for both. Come & rent my vacation rental and say hi! Aloha .

It's hard to believe that we are approaching our sixties. We grew up in the sixties! I became a first time grandma on March 25,2004. My daughter Barbara gave birth a beautiful little girl named "Halen" (that's right as in Van Halen). She is definetly Daddy's girl. I have never seen such a happy baby, so much love! Now I know the blessings of being a grandparent. There is no other feeling like it. It is truly the reward for raising our children. To all my Samohi friends, God's many blessings to you all. |

Pictured above from left to right are Joe Brunton ’64 (Las Cruces, NM), Dave Heller ’62 (Winnetka), Lanny Langston ’63 (Placerville) and Ben Finley ’63 (Huntington Beach). This was the 30th reunion for Joe, Lanny and Ben while Dave has recently joined them for this annual event. This year the group stayed at the Rim Rock Ranch outside of Lassen National Park in northern CA trout fishing in Hat Creek as well as the Pit River. They also toured the country side and stopped at Burney Falls where they hiked down to the base to view a spectacular water fall. The group has traveled to Oregon, Colorado and even driven to Chicago when Joe moved to Maryland in ’93. They all enjoy the Viking News and hope everyone that might have been looking for any of them now know their whereabouts. |

Born in San Francisco, grew up in Los Angeles and Santa Monica. A 1963 SAMOHI graduate; lettered in varsity wrestling, wanted to play base ball (didn't make the team). Was a cheerleader alternate. Vietnam Era veteran, graduated with BS from Langston University as a 3-year varsity letterman, student government president, etc. Attended Clarion University on a Fellowship and graduated with an MS degree. Attended University of South Carolina on a Fellowship and completed all requirements but the dissertation in a doctor of education higher education degree program.
Currently Assistant District Director, District Human Resources, Dallas County Community College District. Previous employment included HR Generalist positions and Affirmative Action Directorships with the Arkansas Department of Higher Education, California State University at Fresno, Caltech's NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory, the University of California's U.S. Department of Energy Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center, the City of Corpus Christi, Texas, and Marconi Integrated Systems (old General Dynamics and currently British Aerospace). Divorced; have a 20-year young daughter who is a Junior at Prairie View A&M University. Currently attending NOVA Southeastern University's Dallas Cluster in the Higher Education doctoral program. Life member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity. Active in Dallas community and in excellent health. Home number is 972.296.6097; Office number is 214.860.2158; and cellular is 214.403.4409.
Pet Peeve: Upon graduating from Santa Monica High School, I was angry and felt cheated that I was counseled into General Education, particularly when my non-Black peers were counseled into college preparatory programs. It was a humiliating experience to watch my fellow students getting accolades during the 1963 graduation ceremony for being accepted to West Point, Notre Dame, USC, etc., while me and a number of other minority students sat idly by with a stereotypically directed future in the service industry. Upon graduating, I worked a year, joined the Army on a lunch break and was influenced by others to attend college and chase a dream that my mother had thwarted the same way, stereotypical counseling. I'm no longer bitter or angry, just an advocate that all kids can learn and there are higher education institutions for all who either want to go to college on there on or are encouraged with good counseling to go, etc.

After two years as an acoustical consultant in Seattle I accepted a scholarship to Stanford University graduating with an M. S. in Engineering in 1976. I worked for the Bechtel companies internationally for ten years and then for my own management consulting firm for a year. In 1986 I joined Charles Salter Associates, consulting engineers in acoustics, where I have since been a Director working with airport noise, forensic audio for criminal cases, architectural acoustics, amphitheater design and a variety of other projects. I am very honored to be able to submit some information about myself. Especially since my experience at SAMOHI left such a tremendous impression on me. While there, I was active in band, choir and the senior play and have wonderful memories of each. I now live with my wife Jackie in a beach community 35 miles north of Seattle. I consult and teach in business development and management and am adjunct faculty at two universities. I am also a lay eucharistic minister in my Episcopal Church. I left Santa Monica right after graduation and never found my way back except for occasional visits. I also regret that I have lost touch with my classmates. I welcome the opportunity to reconnect and hope to attend the 40 year reunion. This is a wonderful website and it surfaces wonderful memories. Thanks! |

Hi! After Samo, I got a B.A. in Psychology from UCLA, moved to Canada to work, married, located in a rural area to raise our 5 children where we had a farm + produce store. When 2 of our kids were recruited for sports scholarships in Idaho, we moved down here in 1990. I returned to school and got a Masters in Applied Psychology, Community College Teaching from Eastern Washinigton University in 1995. Currently, my husband and I are both tenured faculty (me in Psychology and he in Math) at North Idaho College, a beautiful community college on the shores of Lake Coeur d'Alene. We have a local Samohi alumni group that meets at least once a year, since quite a few alums have located here. Stop by and see us if you are in the area. |

After Samohi, I briefly attended SMCC and then graduated from Cal State, Long Beach with both B.S. and M.S. degrees. I recently "retired," after spending 35 years in law enforcement (21-years in Torrance and 14-years as Chief of Police in Tiburon, CA). I am busier than ever, still being a member on a multiple of law enforcement advisory boards (e.g. the California Police Chiefs Asso. as a past-president, international law enforcement institutes, the area of threat assessment, etc.). I also facilitate courses for new CA police chiefs for the Commission on Peace Officers Standards and Training and do law enforcement consulting.
Further, I stay active by being a "professional" member of nonprofit boards (e.g. American Red Cross, American Red Cross, etc.). During my "spare time," I play as much golf as possible and try to devote as much time to my family as I should have when I was working as a police chief. My lovely wife, Susan, volunteers her singing/piano talents in rest homes and Alzheimer's facilities in Marin County. We have two fine academically-inclined and very athletic sons -- Brad, a HS senior, has received his "early decision" acceptance to the University of Puget Sound for next Fall and Jordan is a HS sophomore.
I do, in fact, miss the "old" Santa Monica and have not missed a single "Class of '63 Reunion" since graduation. The "Viking News" and Samohi alumni website have helped feed my passion for the nostalgia of my youthful days growing up in wonderful Santa Monica. |

I came to Santa Monica High School from a really small school in Northern California, and was quite intimidated at first. I didn't know many people as there was sooo many of them. I do remember a guy named Bob Wilde who took me under his wing and helped me find my way around. He was a real good friend, but I lost contact with him after I graduated.
I remember quite well taking ceramics from Mr. Maxwell. He was a great teacher, and I met some nice kids in his class. I am currently living in northern California and just getting into this computer thing & loving it. You're doing a great job with this page and I think it's great for you to do it so that the ones who sign on might be able to catch up with an old classmate he/she has been looking for or wondering about. |

Larry has taken a new job as corporate quality assurance manager for Cooper's wiring devices and we have recently moved from Dallas back to New Rochelle, NY. Kate is trying to continue working as a part-time accountant - but those CPA's still think you should work 24/7! We hope this finds everyone as thrilled and lucky to be past the 50% mark of our lives. Going downhill is much more fun than going up! |

I worked as a Secretary in Hong Kong, Korea, Japan and Okinawa and did some teaching as well. I am a retired Certified Graphoanalyst. I have been married 41 years and have two great step-daughters and one step grand-daughter. I have been living in northern San Diego for over 13 years and have a great life with family and friends. In '68 I moved up to San Francisco and dropped out. Was married to a musician, have two grown children, Jennifer age 27 and a son Lawton age 25. I have been an accountant these many years, which would surprise my old math teachers. I am now working for Apple Computer, and finally going back to college to earn a degree in accounting, how boring. I live in Pacifica which reminds me of Malibu, where I grew up. I'm still living near the ocean which I love. The web site is great keep up the good work. |

I enjoyed reading some of the bio's of our fellow classmates. Admittedly, I remember too few from those days but found it fascinating that so many of us had branched out across the U.S.
I retired in 1999 after spending 35.5 glorious years at GTE. Had a wonderful career and am currently enjoying the leisure days. I made a corporate move to Dallas in 1994 and, although I love it here, will probably be here another year before moving to the White Mountains of Arizona to a small town called Show Low. Golf, scuba diving, photography & travel are some of my passions.
Married to my husband since 1974 and most of our kids, grandkids and other family are still in CA.
Wishing you all the best and hope y'all are happy. |

After Samohi, attended SMCC then off to work at SDC in Santa Monica, then to Beverly Hills as a Legal Secretary. Married in 1967 and have two terrific children, son Tyrone 31 and daughter Shannan 27. Neither of them married and, from the looks of it, I'll not be a grandmother for quite awhile. :( Both completed college and are pursuing their careers. Was a single parent for 18 years and told my children I would never marry their father again but would find him twice! Currently have the most wonderful marriage, never thought it was possible. Married for 6 years - together for 12. I've been in executive management for the last several years including owning my own escrow company in Laguna Beach until the recession in the early 80s. Have lived in Dana Point since 1975. It's really been great reading the bios of so many of you. This site is great! Would love to hear from you. |

I have just returned to Los Angeles from 4 years in La Quinta California where I was the leasing agent for Old Town La Quinta shopping strolling and dining village in the heart of La Quinta. I tremendously enjoyed the time I spent in La Quinta, and am now at Sotheby's International Realty in Santa Monica. One of the highlights of 2005 for me was a reunion with three of my favorite class mates at Samohi to celebrate our "big" birthdays together in San Miguel De Allende. Picture Liz, Francie Rehwald, Gayle Makasian and Lyn Lyons running loose in an historic village in the mountains of Mexico together. One shudders to think!! Happy Winter to all. |

| Fred PENFIELD |
|
Posted 01/2010 |
Deceased
"Fishin' Fred" Penfield passed away at home in Truckee, California,
from cancer, late Thursday evening (May 15th). 2008
Fred was a fixture on Cariboo and Thompson/Nicola stillwaters (and at
some Fall Fish-Ins) every September and October. He was the master of
sight-fishing on the shoals and the use of the true "micro-leech" on
Dragon and Forest Lakes. His white Fold-a-boat was a familiar sight on
most of the challenging trophy trout lakes during the Fall. He was a
regular visitor to Jack & Grace's place and to Robert's Roost, around
Thanksgiving.
Fred shared his secret's with friends and his obsession with sight-
fishing was infectious(I am one of the "infected"). His flies were "killers", his techniques were the best. Fred also fervantly believed
in BC's publically accessible waters and their conservation. He loved
BC and shared his time in retirement between BC in the fall, New
Zealand in the winter and his home in California(which he referred to
as "Nutafornia"), in the summer.
Fred was a fellow 'Nam vet, who parlayed his service into a university
degree in architecture, specializing in casino design and
construction, mostly in the Reno, Nevada area. In fact, up until his
retirement, 10 years ago, every casino built in the previous 25 years,
in Reno, was a Fred Penfield design and construction.
He is survived by his wife Ann and son Jonathan and many, many friends. |

Hi everyone! I am still living in wonderful Simi Valley & going on my 9th year at The Brandeis-Bardin Institute, a Jewish Non-Profit Educational and Cultural Center, as a Sr. Admin Asst. I have 3 children; Kimberly (38), Bryan (36) & Shannon (30)who have given me 7 beautiful grandchildren. The 40th reunion was terrific & alot of fun, but I didn't get to talk to alot of people because I spent too much time in one place and then the evening was over. So, if you remember me, I would love to hear from you. |

Update, retired from Hertz last December 31st, 2007 after 42 years in the Car Rental business. Joined the Board of Directors of three companies to keep me busy in Retirement. After 10 years in Connecticut, my husband and I moved back to California in 2004 and are living in Redondo Beach. It's really great to be here again. I left the newspaper business and went back into interior design, and Jim is in sales. No plans for retirement any time soon as we both enjoy working. Sorry I missed the 40th; but, hope to make the next one, whenever that is. Hello to anyone who still remembers me! |

After graduating from Samohi, I earned a BS in Engineering and subsequently an MBA. My career was spent working around the world engineering and constructing chemical plants, oil refineries, pharmaceutical facilities, power plants, etc. Two years ago, I sold my company and retired. My wife Barb and I have six children living around the world in four different countries. I stay busy administering the Biblical Counseling Ministry at my Church, Lakeside Community Chapel, visiting my children and managing personal real estate investments. We are all active scuba divers and love sailing. We have a waterfront home so that we have ready access to our boats to enjoy our favorite hobbies. I have remained in touch with my great Samohi friend Pete Herley, also class of 63. My regards and best wishes to friends from Samohi.

I'm 58, founded/operated an exclusive Porsche repair shop in Santa Monica for 25 years. Moved to Bakersfield in 2002 with my wife Kate, a Kern County Assistant D.A., and stepson Mike, 11. I have two adult children, Denny and Diana, from a first marriage, both are doing well. I drove competitively for many years and won an E/P SCCA championship in 1985. I became disabled in 2002 and just underwent shoulder replacement surgery - so much for golf and tennis! Life in Bakersfield is good, not nearly as hectic as anywhere near the coast, but it gets hot up here. Maybe we'll move to Minnesota... |
