Hi to SAMO friends- After graduation in 1959 a stint in the Air Force (Texas, Mississippi and Kassel, Germany), married Karen Simonsen (Class of ‘60), then back to school- SMCC and Cal State, Northridge, concluding with a degree in Design. Then, into the real world. Karen, our daughter, Kelly, (Birth Class of S.M.. Hospital, 1962) and I moved to Fresno, CA in 1971. Karen settled into a career in administration, primarily the medical field, unfortunately shortened by a terrible accident. She is OK today, thank you. My career blossomed (cough) in advertising art, working for a few Ad Agencies, then on my own. The checkered accomplishments of Doug Anderson Design, Inc. has brought me into semi-retirement today. Outside of this Day Job for so many years, I have continued my passion in the fine arts painting and drawing. Being proud of doing a logo, a brochure, or an ad, is nice, is fine, is rewarding -- but it pales beside seeing something you’ve done hanging on a wall. Or my Mom’s refrigerator. We’re talking real pride, here. Karen and I divorced in 1981. We both remarried but, sadly, our respective new mates have passed on. Daughter Kelly has added three grand daughters to the family. We are all still in Fresno, and would love to hear from any of our mutual classmates and friends.

I know, odd name, but I'm back at the old homestead and mom has the same first name. I've been in brain and consciousness research for about 30 years now, at UCLA, UC Davis (&OR,CO,Fla,No.CA again, Sunshine Coast of British Columbia) then back to UCLA and living in Malibu. Was married 14 years to college sweetheart, Ben Baldwin. My research put him through Veterinary School. But have experienced several incarnations since then. Have two wonderful offspring. Beau-27 now in school in Uppsala, Sweden with his lady love, and Danika-25, in Sch. of Architecture, Copenhagen, Denmark for this year. We're all perpetual students.
Fun hearing about your visit to Marci Turner Haase, Kay. I keep in touch with her too, and have been to visit her in her lovely home in Reno. She's still making beautiful music with her violin. We had lots of fun at SMCC guesting with SMCC orchestra. Marci certainly metamorphosed a few years ago, when she took up marathon bicycling. She's one of my heroes! I'm busy with Malibu ranch chores, research projects and friends who share interests in what we're here for, and since we are, how best to be healthy and become wise. Danika and I swam and sang with Spotted Dolphins for a week last summer near West End, Bahamas. Enjoyed the connection here...

I've been in the Broadcast Industry the majority of my professional career. Both in Radio and Television. My wife Maria and I have been married 25 years. Our choosing not to have children has provided us the time and resources to be able to see much of world. We both retired last year so continued travel is definitely in the future. I hope to take up golf and perhaps fly fishing. My tennis and skiing could also use some improvement. Becoming more proficient as a stock trader would also certainly be most welcome. Any tips? Let me hear from you if you get a chance.

During the past 41 years I've lived and worked in Minnesota with my husband, Wayne. We travel as often as possible during the frigid winter months to scuba dive in the Caribbean, ski in the Rockies, or visit our grandchildren in Thousand Oaks and the Rocky Mountains, Colorado. Our entire family (3 sons, 1 daughter, 3 daughter-in-laws, 1 son-in-law, plus 8 grandchildren) go on at least one 10 day scuba trip each year. Although Wayne is a retired architect, I have no desire to retire and am working in computer graphics from home. We love Minnesota in the summer and will probably spend the rest of our days here.

Still enjoying life in Aotearoa New Zealand with my wife, Anne and our family. Retired from creative director stuff, but still writing features for various magazines and working on other writing projects - some of which you can read on www.feigelonline.com. You might also get a kick out of some stories about the good old days of surfing Santa Monica Bay, plus some great images that will bring back old memories of Santa Monica & Malibu on www.surfwriter.net. Hope all is well with all of you. Cheers, Bob (06 July 2007) PLEASE USE THE FOLLOWING EMAIL ADDRESS: bob(AT)surfwriter.net. The last time I published a valid email address here I was inundated with SPAM ... so I've used a "throw-away" address in the form and only check it once a month to keep it active.

I have had a quiet life. Still happily married to Steve for 45 years (also class of 1959), mother of three (Sr. Master Sgt/Air Force, Youth Pastor, 5th grade teacher), grandmother to seven. Homemaker was my most gratifying job title: others have included office admin. and primary caregiver for my aging mother. The latter was the a most difficult season for me; however, I can truly say I would not hesitate to do it again. I hope it's possible for a majority of you to come to the reunion. Steve and I look forward to seeing you all. P.S. I know most of us will look quite different: I hope the Committee uses VERY large printing on the name badges so I don't have to get too personal trying to see your names. :-)

After Hi school, went to SMCC and San Fernando Valley State College. Graduated in June 1964 and began teaching at Will Rogers where I went to school in September of 1964. Went with David Hauver while at SMCC, but he kissed me off and married someone else. Then in 1965, he saw the error of his ways and re-entered my life. We were married in 1966, have two children, Dana, 30 (as still single but plans to wed next year), and Deena 28, who is getting married in May 2000.

David retired from Douglas...McDonnell Douglas....Boeing in September of 1999. We enjoy traveling around the US showing a model train layout he built and giving clinics on various aspects of model railroading. We use these excursions to see this wonderful country. I raise turtles, cats, dogs, and any other animals that stray into our backyard.

After graduation from Samohi in 59, I attended Santa Monica City College for a year. I married the love of my life, Sharon Eileen Moynier (Class of 1962) in 1962 and have treasured every moment of her presence in my life. We have two daughters and two sons, all of whom have grown up to be good people and we actually enjoy their company as often as possible. Our two daughters have together provided five really nifty grand kids, and they too are treasures in our lives.

I joined the Los Angeles Police Department and spent twenty years, two months, twenty-two days, seven and one-half hours in the LAPD blue. Lots of exciting times with the PD, and many assignments; my last was Law Instructor at the Police Academy between 1980 and 1984 when I retired. While a member of the LAPD I attended law school and graduated with my Juris Doctor degree in 1979.

When I retired from the PD in 1984 I became a criminal prosecutor in the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office where I had the fun of sending a few really "bad" people to prison. In 1986 I opened a private law practice in Moorpark, California where Sharon and I represented police officers and firefighters almost exclusively. In 2003, the City of Los Angeles recruited me to return to the public sector and I am now a Deputy City Attorney working in downtown L.A.

Life is still good, and Sharon and I are looking forward "soon" to a move to Oregon where I may actually retire....and maybe go into teaching again. We love to travel in our motorhome, but it currently rests in storage in Eugene, Oregon...anxiously awaiting our move to the Willamette Valley.

I am retired from the field of pulmonary medicine. I started my career at UCLA hospital followed by working at Saint John's Hospital and then moved on to a private practice of 5 physicians and myself, as respiratory therapist, heading the area of research/clinical trials and helping form the first clinical sleep lab in Santa Monica. I worked for 18 years in that pulmonary practice following my stint as a Mom raising our son and daughter. In retirement, we travel, shuttle between Palm Desert and Century City and yearn for our visits with those grandbabies.

First and foremost, after leaving Santa Monica, I became Ellen. Though I am elderly like the rest of you, sadly I remain idealistic. I believe in the ability of music to change the minds of warriors, though my friends and I haven't yet written the quintessential sounds to accomplish this. On a soul connection level, I'd like to revisit Eddy Woodland and find out why I ever broke up with him. :) On another note, I always looked forward immensely to this millennium even before it was dubbed the new age, and try to stay optimistic about what humanity might do next.

I want to thank the members of the reunion committee for a job well done and especially Peggy Kutila (Porter) for her phone call encouraging us to come. I only wish there had been more time to get caught up on what has happened in the lives of those classmates I re-connected with. I retired last year from my medical practice after 35 years and so have more time for golf, travel, grandchildren, and photography. Feel free to look us up if you're in the Santa Cruz area (we're listed in the local phone book).

It was a blessing to be born in Santa Monica, grow up in that very special city, attend its wonderful schools and eventually graduate from Santa Monica High School in 1959. To have had the experiences of being a teenager in the "50's" against the unique backdrop of Santa Monica was a gift...an incredible gift really.

My maternal grandparents moved to Santa Monica around 1890 with three children. My mother was one of six children that were eventually to be born there. In 1962 I married Dave Haase from Glendale, CA. Together we had three children Sharon, Mindy and Ken. Our family moved to Reno, Nevada in 1972 where Dave practiced architecture and we raised our children. Our marriage ended in 1992. I continued to live in Reno until 2004, when I moved to Bainbridge Island. Bainbridge is a lovely island located west of Seattle.....about a 40 minute ride by ferry. The lifestyle available to me here great. I can walk just about everywhere I need to go....on a daily basis.

At the present time I am living in an apartment right in the village of Winslow. I can walk to the ferry and go to Seattle for the day to explore or go to the Seattle Art Museum. I am also able to walk to the post office, grocery stores, bank or dentist. The only time I drive is when I choose to....perhaps to take a hike in the Olympics. I love to walk and enjoy walking with a walking group on the island called the Striders. I also often walk with the Volkwalkers and international group that organizes walks and walking events around the world. I work about 25 hours a week at the Bainbridge Library. I enjoy playing my violin...recently I have been playing some Bach Cello Suites that were arranged for violin.

Each day I try to spend time in prayer, meditation, contemplation and doing a routine of yoga and stretching exercises. I love to read, listen to music, ride my mountain bike and learn. I have five grandchildren and a sixth is expected this summer. :)

What fun to catch up on so many of you!

I've been teaching history and architectural history -- in the L.A. Community College District since 1975; C.S.U.N. since 1985, but only (finally)completed my Ph.D. last August. Wrote a book: Los Angeles: The End of the Rainbow. Love teaching too much to ever retire. Travel when I can: Ireland last summer, Italy & Portugal this summer.

I spend 35 years in the married category; two years so far in the liberated category. I have two daughters: Lara, age 30, an intensive care nurse; Karen, age 29, corporate jet dispatcher for Disney; two cats; many volunteer activities; a great life; and happy memories of Samohi!
