Celebrated our 60th wedding anniversary. We were married at St Monicas Church during a public mass on a holy day of obligation. The church was filled with many strangers and a few relatives and friends. Charlie says "In our marriage Dona has been the guiding light. I am a very lucky guy to have this wonderful women as my lifelong love".

I was known as Paul Huntsberger during high school days. I'm very proud to be a Samohi alumnus. I am retired from teaching at The University of Texas at Austin and enjoying summers at my cabin in south-central Colorado. I would enjoy communicating with other members of the class of 1949. I have several hobbies: astronomy, 4-string banjo; 35mm photography; and birding. Mr. Max Silvernale, biology teacher, made a very permanent positive impression on me at Samohi and influenced much of success as a teacher.

I am married and have four children. I would love to hear from any of my old friends.

Beverly Jean KAMERER Jensen email Winton, CA Posted 06/11/06
I met Paul David Jensen (Class of 44) while attending Santa Monica City College and we were married in October of 1950 while attending Chinourd's Institute of Art in Los Angeles. Paul was military so we lived in California, Washington, Oklahoma, New Jersey, England, Hawaii, and Japan. While in living in Japan, we were able to spend time in Korea, and Okinawa. After retirement from the military we moved to Winton, California where I worked in the school system as a Teacher's Aide. As a civilian civil servant, Paul was transferred back to Fairchild AFB, Washinton for the period of 1980 - 1984. At Fairchild, we lived on base and I worked as the Education Coordinator for the Base Chapel System. (For more information see: Paul D. Jensen, Class of 44)

My sister and I are entering this in memorium for our beloved father, DAVID LOUIS KOHLER. He was a Santa Monica police officer from 1956 to 1960. He was killed while on duty in a traffic accident. Many of you knew him better than we did, since we were only 6 and 7 years old when he died. My sister and I would love to hear from anyone who knew our father. Please e-mail us. Thank you! With much love ...

Hi to all 49'r. I'm well and healthy as 74 years can be. Playing jazz guitar in four different groups keeps me out of trouble. Due to retirement planning and dumb luck, I can now afford to be a "Starving Musician". With wife Lee (52 years) we travel a lot and play with our eight grandchildren. In June, 05 we will attend graduation ceremonies for our oldest, Tyler Burdick, Samohi '01, at U C Santa Cruz. then we will continue on to Yelm, Washington for Lee's 55th high school reunion.

I was salutatorian for the class of 1949 (the forty-niners), an editor of the Samohi paper and played flute in the band, marching in the Rose Parade with my brother who was two years ahead of me. I was more than a little disappointed that our 50th anniversary (1999) passed without any notice at all. I was told I would be welcome at the usual picnic! I hope some of my classmates are still around and that through the website I may find some of them. I am retired, but still busy after founding the department of Religious Studies at the University of Missouri, Columbia in 1981 and teaching there for 20 years. I also was a professor at Duke University (1973-81) and UCR (1969-73). My Ph.D. is from the University of Chicago (1970). It's been a good career and a good life and still is, I'm happy to say.

This is a great website and a great way to get in touch with old friends. My wife, Mary Jane (McCully), and I graduated together in 1949. We were married in 1954 and this year we are celebrating our 50th wedding anniversary. I am still practicing dentistry in Santa Monica and hope to retire in 20 years. Bill Werner
