A small group of Samohi Alumni held a mini-reunion Thursday August 29th on retired Fire Chief John Sturgess's classic new 38' cabin cruiser at Marina del Rey. Alumni Sturgess was kind enough to not only host the get together on his yacht and provide the "chow and grog" bur also took the group on an extensive harbor cruise of the marina. Attendees included Bill Delkner, Joe Eubanks, Jim White, Dale Welsh, Fred Williams and Jerry Alford. Unable to attend were Charlie Boyce (busy fishing in Sisters, Oregon), Don Cook, Steve Steere as well as Harry Kuhlmeyer. Incidentally Harry was the person who earlier informed everyone that THEY (based on age ??) were now "On the Offramp of Life" but accidentally took an incorrect offramp himself and ended up at Saint Johns Medical Center undergoing an extensive eye examination!! As they say "a great time was had by all" and those unable to make the event were HUMUNGOUSLY berated (and lied about as well) I am attaching several photographs of attendees but many were such shady characters ( literally) that they did not photograph clearly. |

Hello everyone,
Early this morning, at 2:25 a.m., our dad died. We were both with him the entire time, and our mom and Annie's husband John came soon after death. We all stayed with him and helped him through this journey.
The myeloma was the cause - it spread throughout his body, including to his kidneys, and that is what ultimately caused his death.
He was never alone in the last 3 days, between the two of us, mom, John, Uncle Don, Natasha, Cynthia, Bruce and Aldene Sellery, Kevin and Melissa Susman. We believe he knew we were all there, and his death was a very peaceful one.
Rather than flowers, we know that dad would prefer that you help support the research that is trying to find a cure for myeloma, a horrible disease. Here is their address:
International Myeloma Foundation

Thanks to you all for such wonderful messages and words of support. We read them all to dad, and it gave him great joy to know that you all cared so much about him. Annie and Brian |
